Bio Club Cleaning
Today during double block study I worked with Andrea on cleaning up the back of the biology room, where we will be working on dissections. I had to empty out these really old experiments which smelled quite bad, but I got the job done. There is now a whole counter free for us to use. Considering only 2 people of the whole biology club did this, I think that is significant in meeting my learning outcomes. I might work on cleaning again later next week if the dissection hasn't started yet.

Biology Club
We finally had a meeting for biology club! Only four of us showed up, but we planned basically what we wanted to do. We decided that during our study halls we could come into the biology room and work on dissection of different things, and then we will compare the differences in the anatomy's of different organisms. I'm not a huge fan of dissection, so I think this will help me to develop new skills. After the comparison is done, we want to make a glogster (an online collage) showing what we've done. I think this will be good because we will have to work collaboratively as a group. By the end of the week we are going to give Dr. Gilligan a sheet with everyones names and our study halls so that by next week we can start on the dissection.

The Bake Sale
Today was our bake sale for SOI. Jade and I worked it, and we sold mostly all of the brownies we had and some of the muffins. However, we didn't sell a lot of tea, which was kind of disapointing. All together we made around 25 dollars, which is pretty good though. Last bake sale we made 30. Maybe we will have another one soon.

Planning at SOI
Today at SOI, we talked about our bake sale tomorrow, which I will be volunteering along with Jade. We also discussed possible plans for a senior party that we might be throwing at the end of the year after mock exams, which I think will help me to meet my learning goals, because I will have to help plan a lot of things for the entire senior class, as well as putting myself out there with advertisements and things. Hopefully the bake sale is a success, I will talk about it tomorrow.

Another meeting at SOI
Today, we finished up the final part of the movie, which was basically a summary of the other parts. I think watching this movie sort of fits with learning outcome 6- engaging with issues of global importance. It really opened my views towards the processing of food, which is globally important. Food gets shipping thousands of miles before it reaches our grocery store, and nobdoy really realizes it. People can get extremely sick if they eat the wrong food, which is something that people should be aware of globally.
We also discussed our next bake sale, which I volunteered for, which helps me to meet learning goal 3, because I am engaging in the activities and planning them. I am taking initiative by volunteering, because I am the only one who volunteered to work at the bake sale. The other three people are bringing in baked goods.
The bake sale is a week from today, so we will see how it goes.

SOI
On Tuesday, we continued to watch the movie, which was very moving. In the movie, there was a mother of a child who had died from eating meat which had been contaminated. This sort of made me think a lot about the food industry, and my actions regarding choices of food. I don't think that I will stop eating meat, but I definitely am going to consider where it has been before I eat it.
Also, only three other people showed up for this meeting, which I think shows my commitment to the group.
There's not much to blog about the movie...

FIrst Biology Club Meeting
Today, we had our first biology club meeting after school. There were only five students who came, because two were absent, but we mostly talked about what we would do for the future meetings. We decided that every week someone would bring in their own topic and discuss it. I think that this adds to my goal because I will be directly contributing to the group, as one meeting every seven days will be based upon what I want it to be. Other than this, the meeting was pretty short, because everyone wasn't there. However, after vacation we are going to have another meeting.
